Frequently Asked Questions

Here's a rundown of some of the more common questions we get about Internet Banking...

Security
We have, at every step, taken considerable care to incorporate the latest, most sophisticated security measures to protect the integrity of our banking system and member confidentiality. That's why we have provided not one but five levels of security -- including Member Numbers and PassCodes, military level encryption, bulletproof firewalls, gateways and routers, internal controls and procedures, audit trails and strict business rules.

The first security level begins with your Web browser. When you access Community Savings Internet Banking, your browser is checked by Community Savings to ensure that it meets our minimum requirements listed below.

We only allow Members with browsers that use 128-bit encryption (one of the highest levels of browser security available today) to bank on our web site. You were redirected to this page because your browser offers less than 128 bit encryption.

The browser validation will verify the browser type you are using, your browser encryption level, the version of Netscape or Microsoft browser, as well as JavaScript and cookies being enabled. To access Community Savings Internet Banking, you need to use:

  1. a Netscape browser version 4.06 or better with a minimum 128-bit encryption technology
  2. a Microsoft browser version 4.01 SP2 or better with a minimum 128-bit encryption technology
  3. JavaScript and Cookies enabled

If your browser does not meet all of these requirements, you will need to upgrade your browser to login. To upgrade your browser, select the Netscape or Microsoft button below and download the latest browser version.

Even with the proper browser and encryption, you should continually monitor browser security to assess your browser's potential for security vulnerability. To access information about browser security, please visit the Netscape and Microsoft Web sites. To ensure a safe and secure Internet session, only visit reputable sites.

You are responsible to ensure your browser is the most secure available.

Accessing account information through the Internet will be much like accessing your account through an ATM. You'll need to have three very private pieces of information: your Member Number, accompanying PassCode and which Branch your account is held. Without either of these you won't get in. The ultimate responsibility lies with the user. Never give out your codes and account numbers to anyone.

Membership
In order to start enjoying Internet Banking and have unlimited access to your accounts, you must first become a member of the Community Savings™ Credit Union. If you are a member and have an IWA + Community Credit Union chequing account you're well on your way to use Internet Banking.

If you are not a member...anyone can join Community Savings™ providing you are a lawful resident of the Province of British Columbia (B.C.), Canada with a British Columbia street address (sorry, for security reasons no Postal Boxes), have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) and acceptable I.D.. Membership also requires an initial investment of $25.00 CAN for Equity Shares which are refundable upon closure of your account anytime after six months). If you are a member but later move out of the province, you can keep your membership and still enjoy access to your accounts from anywhere in the world using the internet - providing you maintain a valid Canadian home street address.

Click "join online" if you meet the above criteria and wish to open a chequing account. Top Page.

MEMBER NUMBER AND PASSCODE
In order to access Internet Banking you will need three things - your Member Number, a PassCode and the identity of your home Branch where your chequing account is held. Without all of these you will not be able to access Internet Banking. Once you become a member and have set up a chequing account you will given a Member Number for all your accounts. With your Member Number you will be able to enroll for Internet Banking.

SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE
With Internet Banking there is no need to load additional space consuming software. All you need is your browser, a modem and of course, access to the Internet - either through work or at home.

Browser - Regardless of your choice of browser, it must be capable of recognizing Secure web sites and encryption and javascript. If not, you will not be able to access Internet Banking. We strongly recommend you download the latest (free) version of Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (128 bit version) for Windows 95 or NT 4.0, or Internet Explorer 4.0 for the Macintosh in order to experience all that the web has to offer. Netscape Navigator 4.0 or higher will also work but again you should upgrade or download the latest version of Netscape Navigator 4.0 for optimal security, performance and functionality.

Modem - While we have at every turn, taken great care to ensure each web page in Internet Banking loads quickly and easily we suggest a modem with a minimum baud rate of at least 28.8 kbps for optimal performance. Without stating the obvious, the faster the modem the more you will enjoy the Internet and all that it provides.

Computer Type - Internet Banking is accessible regardless of the type, make or model of your computer. It works equally well on the Macintosh or UNIX Operating System as it does using Windows 3.X, 95, 98 or NT X.X.

Internet Service Provider - We recommend a service provider that offers a network that allows you access the internet (and thereby your accounts) from virtually any major city in the province or the world without incurring long distance charges. That's really handy when your travelling on business or vacation. If you don't intend to travel or use Internet Banking outside of your city or the province, your local ISP should be able to meet your needs. Top Page.

MONEY MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE - OPTIONAL
You also have the ability to download your account activity directly into your favourite personal or business money management software like Microsoft's Money or Quicken. Although these third party tools are not required to use Internet Banking they do offer increased functionality, flexibility and control for organizing, analyzing, managing and reporting your finances.
