Covid-19 Update on Physical Distancing

A message from Mike Schilling, President and CEO.

May 12, 2020

Community Savings CEO speaks on the team effort of both Members and the CSCU staff on respecting the Covid-19 safety measures and ensuring a safe environment.

Your Credit Union. Your Community

Community Savings Credit Union was built by hard working people.  It was built to support them in the good times and help them through the tough times.  Over the past seven weeks we have been proud to fulfil our founding purpose.

We’ve seen the huge impact that COVID-19 has had on our members and our wider community with thousands of people seeking financial support over the past few weeks.

At the start of this crisis we made a decision to keep all of our branches open every day. I’m proud that through the hard work of our dedicated team and the support of you, our members, we have been able to do this. Visits to our branches have decreased substantially as our members took responsibility to protect themselves, our team, and those most vulnerable in our community.

We’ve all seen the news and, thankfully, British Columbia is starting to carefully open-up.  We will see more shops, parks and public transport available and we will see more of our family and friends. While this is positive news, it is important to remember that physical distancing will be with us as a community for some time, as will the financial pressures many working people have suffered because of this pandemic.

In line with the recent announcements from the BC government, we will continue with physical distancing practices in all our branches. We are also asking our members to continue to contact us via email, phone or use online banking, mobile banking and ATMs wherever possible.  These small changes to our normal routines will ensure that Community Savings can continue to keep all of our branches open, every day with a team here to support our members and communities.

The changes we have made and the work we have undertaken has been hard but choosing the right thing to do was not. At this time we chose to look at our community and not our bottom line.

Thank you and stay well.

Mike Schilling
President & CEO
