Manager, Financial Reporting     Location - Surrey, BC

Community Savings Credit Union is on the search for a progressive and confident individual with accounting expertise, analytical skills and thoughtful diligence. If you are looking to further your career, and to manage a small team, in a growing and purposeful credit union then we are looking for YOU. 

You’re a Canadian CPA with several years’ experience either working in a public practice firm; the Finance department of a credit union; and/or a Canadian financial regulator. You have a robust knowledge of current accounting standards and a reasonable awareness of audit practices. You find pleasure in solving complex problems, using quantitative data and qualitative reasoning. MS Excel functions and/or model design are interesting. It likely that you’re familiar with financial services products such as residential mortgages, commercial loans and deposit accounts. And perhaps you have some understanding of banking concepts such as liquidity and/or capital.

What we are really looking for is someone who is a team player and can build courteous, friendly and professional relations with co-workers and internal/external stakeholders alike. The ability to schedule; organize and prioritize work assignments; work under pressure; meet deadlines and be adept at working in a highly collaborative agile environment; and to effectively manage unionized employee(s).

Community Savings is in the midst of a thrilling growth journey. Incremental to co-operative principles, we have ‘special sauce’ in our purpose to be the preferred financial institution for trade unions, trade union members and working people. Incrementally, the BCFSA has proposed significant changes to regulatory reporting in 2021. This role will play a key role in maintaining compliance. But it will also help drive efforts to embrace best practices; evolve efficient processes; and implement modern technologies towards future functional excellence.

In addition to the above requirements, any of the following attributes would be beneficial:

  • Employment in a regulated financial institution and/or finance, risk or treasury function
  • Familiarity with financial services regulation; BCFSA or OSFI reporting; and/or taxation
  • Professional designation in finance, risk, audit, treasury or data analysis
  •  Experience with data structures, general ledger implementation and/or reporting systems
  • Knowledge of cooperative values, the credit union system or organizational purpose
  • Experience with Wealthview banking system, general ledgers and/or reporting systems 
  • Experience managing and/or coaching people
